Oh my...this is so beautifully written. I have tears from being deeply touched by your story and heartfelt writing. My daughter in 30 and is engaged to the man she loves and adores who she's been with for at least 11 years but has known even longer. They got engaged last year. He too is 30 and a wonderful man who I've seen grow up a lot since they first got together. My daughter's ideas of her perfect wedding has changed a lot over the years. (They don't have wedding plans yet) Even her idea of the perfect engagement...meaning the situation of how, when, where and other details of 'The Event'...of being asked...and they have discussed that together quite a few times. Though the final 'situation' of the 'Being Asked' was very different than her first ideas which did evolve into less and less expectations over time ....it was beautiful and perfect...including being completely surprised, which was one of the very important things for her...and he pulled that off beautifully. One of her ideas was to have it photographed...and all the ways that could happen, someone hiding in the bushes or hiring a drone. But she finally let go of that idea...and just went with the flow. As it turned out he took her on a hike to Garrapata in Big Sur area. Ring in tote. Just after the asking...a man was walking by on the trail with a good camera right after the asking happened and they were beaming with obvious love and excitement and shared what had just happened...and he whipped out his phone and took beautiful photos of them which seemed magical and effortless, besides the selfie that her fiancé took.

I too am not with her father and haven't been for many years, and he is also remarried, ..and we also have stayed in good relations and friends. He lives in town and for years I hosted Christmas dinners, Thanksgiving dinners, Birthdays and other celebrations at my house which always included him, his wife, and both of our parents, and grandparents ...and many friends who had no where to go or family lived far out of town.

Dear Hannah, you are a very good writer and I have enjoyed what you have written so far. Keep it up! Keep track of your writings. You never know...you might compile them into a book some day.

Love, Marilyn
